The owners
We bought La Basse-Cour in Cormolain in 2000. While it wasn't exactly run down, the previous owners had spent the minimum amount possible on it since they bought the place in the 1960s.
The result was a series of buildings that could be described as having been well maintained, but hardly with the word 'lovingly' added!
Since we bought La Basse-Cour, a great deal of work has been carried out. It can't yet be described as finished, but how many other owners of a 200-year old property can ever say they've truly finished?
We certainly hope that it is now considerably more comfortable than when we first were given the keys, but if you do come to stay, please be aware that we're still working on the house (although not while you're in it!) and surrounding grounds, and our prices reflect this.
In 2004 and 2005 James was permanently based in Cormolain and, in between working on La Basse-Cour and enjoying everything that Normandy had to offer (including state-subsidised French lessons!), also contributed occasional articles to the Observer about his experiences (see links on the left).
Now splitting our time between Norfolk and Normandy, renovation continues in fits and starts. There's nothing major left to do, so that's alright!
