How to get to Cormolain from Le Havre

As you leave the port you pick up the signs for Paris, Rouen and you follow these.

Keep an eye out for signs for Pont de Normandie, because you want to follow these and cross the bridge (toll is 5€). Bikes go free, so make sure you use one of the manned toll booths or the bike lane to the far right (nearside).

Once you're over the Seine and into the départment of Calvados, if you want the quick route, follow the signs for Caen and you'll get taken via the autoroute (blue signs).

For a much more scenic route, take the first turning after you've crossed the Pont de Normandie, go right on the roundabout (go right on the next roundabout too if you want to fill up with fuel as a supermarket) and then follow the green signs for Honfleur.

Go through Pont-l'Eveque and then head for Caen. Don't be tempted to follow the blue signs or you'll end up back on the autoroute. The route is signposted N175 (red) or D675 (in yellow. They're in the process of down-grading the road).

Once you're almost in Caen, take the Péripherique (Sud is easiest, but a little further than Nord) and follow the signs for Carpiquet (airport).

The road that takes you past the gates of Carpiquet airport is the road - the D9 - you stay on for almost 20 miles until you are virtually at Cormolain.

If you have a few minutes spare you can stop outside the airport and see some of the German defences that the Canadians eventually overcame to capture this vital airfield after some heavy fighting.

After the hamlet of La Croix des Landes the road slopes gently downhill. Immediately after the sweeping left bend at the bottom you will see this junction. Go slowly, because you need to turn right.

Here's a close up of the sign. As you can see, Cormolain is on it and you're almost there!

Follow the D31 until you see the village sign. Immediately after this sign, you need to take the right-hand fork (in other words, don't follow the road round to the left, just go straight on).

A couple of hundred yards further on you come to this crossroads. You want to go straight across (onto rue Pont Hébert), but Give Way first.

This is the sign you will see as you go straight over. Actually, it's been mangled by a tractor since I took this, but you'll recognise it.

Then, take the first left, a couple of hundred yards further on.

Our drive is the first track you come to on the left. If you come to a crossroads, you've gone 50 yards too far.
