July 2005
The beginning of July wasn't as dry or as hot as hoped for.
For me, the month began with a trip to the Dordogne for a wedding. The temperature stayed firmly in the 90s (degrees F, that is), while Normandy remained in the grip of a few days of strong winds and persistent rain.
The second Sunday of the month is the day of the large fleamarket in Cormolain, when the main roads through the village are closed to traffic and given over to dozens of stalls, both profressionals and locals. Harking back to the days when Cormolain was a large, bustling, staging-post between St Lô and Bayeux, it always attracts a large crowd from the area. Unfortunately this year, like last, was cold.
Then, the weather changed. Almost overnight it became scorching hot. It coincided with my departure to the UK, so I was only able to enjoy it for a few days.
The second half of July was a mixture of sunshine and rain. I spent it in the UK, but while I was away the weeds enjoyed rapid growth, easily overtaking the vegetables I planted.
