March 2005
Roches de Ham in mid-March
March came in like a lion, with strong winds and the heaviest snowfall of the winter. Even the local autoroute was closed for two days. The rest of the world was almost cut off from Calvados!
By mid-month there was some warmth in the sun, although there were still patches of snow lurking behind hedges and on some of the higher ground.
Just two days later the sun came out properly and temperatures soared to 25 degrees Centigrade in Caen! Unfortunately I missed the next few days of Spring weather because I left for Britain the very next day for a short trip and by the time I returned the sun had gone again. Instead, the weather at the end of March was mild, but a bit damp too.
Back where I used to live in England, the tourists and foreign-exchange students used to appear with the first flowers. Here, enquiries about bookings for the Summer holidays are starting to appear, just like the daffodils and tulips in the courtyard and the wild primroses that are scattered around the verges around Cormolain.
Late news: on 30th March it was warm enough to have lunch outside!
