May 2005
The beginning of May was, for some strange reason, much colder that the end of April. The sun still shone, but it was accompanied by a biting wind, sometimes from the east, sometimes north and even from the west, but always cold.
Many postcards of the region show cows under apple blossom, so not to be outdone I kept my eyes open for similar scenes. They aren't hard to find, as the countryside is still covered with lots of apple trees, even though hundreds of orchards have been felled since the War. There are still plenty of cows, though!
By the end of the month, most of the blossom has gone, to be replaced by lush, green meadows and verdant hedgerows.
It was a mixed month weather-wise, with scorching hot days interspersed with torrential downpours and chilly winds. The end of the month seems to have brought slighty warmer weather and clear, blue, skies. Let's hope it's a good omen for June.
